and, when Pillowfort’s up after it’s security maintenance, you’ll find me there! I’ll re-bump the links when that’s confirmed. I will most likely be nicnox there as well 🙂
For the record, I’ll still be posting here for now! However, I’m also definitely old and internet-experienced enough to remember several other fandom migrations when sites finally burned one too many bridges. I know better than to leave my eggs in one basket now that Tumblr has announced this particular brand of nonsense, and I’d already been eyeing it before.
Twitter’s where all art-related content will go (sketches and finished alike), DA will be an aggregate gallery for simplicity’s sake, and Pillowfort will take a better whole-hearted place than Tumblr in the long run – though for now, I know it’s limited in scale while it’s in beta (thankfully, I already got my early registration key, as I supported the Kickstarter). I might also cave and do Instagram, but that’s up in the air (it’s super frustrating that I can’t post from the desktop) – follow my Twitter for updates if that happens 🙂
Also, for the record, I don’t tweet a ton of ‘extra thoughts’, so no worries if you only want to follow art-focused Twitter accounts, you’ll be safe there – I’ve never quite gotten the hang of non-content sharing posts/tweets, pff.
I’ll post again in a couple days once Pillowfort’s cleared to re-bump these!
Again, not abandoning Tumblr as a whole; so long as it’s viable, I’ll keep sharing that sweet sweet skeleton content here. I’ll just also be sharing elsewhere, and honestly, I’m going to focus on those accounts given Tumblr’s… Titanic status. Bonus, any and all Deltarune content will be through those accounts from now on; this account’ll stick to UT/UT AU content.
TL;DR: follow my Twitter (@_nicnox) and my DA (@nicnox-art) for future art content; in the meantime, I’ll still at least be posting UT AU content here so long as it’s viable.
We all have seen the Tumblr communicate about forbidding nsfw blogs or those which have “adult” posts.
They think it won’t cause them any harm, but we are a really big part of the community. Let’s act and tell the staff that tumblr will slowly die after taking this decision. Follow these steps:
First of all, REBLOG THIS POST, so any NSFW blog can post and see it.
Give tumblr the worst mark at the App Store or Play Store
Write a negative comment about how they’re banning accounts and censoring the freedom of expression.
Purpose as a comment below a new site to move as a NSFW community.
If you do this before the 17 of December, we can change this decision. Let’s make the staff hear us. Make tumblr great again, a free place for free minds and free content!!
Personally, I enjoyed every single moment here at tumblr, and I appreciate everyone of my followers and blogs that I follow. If they delete my account… It was a pleasure to know you all. But we can still change this!!!
Realistically, looking at the chain of events that have brought us here, Tumblr has managed to alienate itself from a PR standpoint both in relation to general public opinion and with its own user base. I don’t think Tumblr has panned out at all how Verizon/Yahoo wanted it to. Their hopes to take it from niche platform to mainstream fell flat, and the way they’ve monetized it doesn’t really lead me to believe they’re raking in the dough.
Remember how Yahoo tried to clean up Tumblr during the purchase? Imagine being the suit that said “hey we need to have less porn on here if we want to succeed” then Tumblr failed miserably at keeping itself clean to the point where they were removed from the app store for the sheer amount of CHILD PORN that was on Tumblr…
If I was upper management, I’d be pissed. Heads would be rolling. I’d say turn adult content off and scrub it clean and whatever genius said “oh no, we can manage it, trust us!” would be fucking fired for incompetency.
Then I’d ask, is it worth it? Is it worth the cost of keeping Tumblr alive? Is it turning that much of a profit? Will it continue to turn a profit after this? Because I feel like the exodus that is coming is going to go well beyond the scope of adult content creators. Confidence in Tumblr will be at an all time low, and the moment a better option comes along, people will happily drop Tumblr.
That’s how I see it going down. I don’t WANT Tumblr to die, I’ve said before that Tumblr is uniquely great at letting small artists build a following and even support themselves. Some sort of platform will spring up from this whole mess, hopefully being mindful of the lessons we’ve learned here on Tumblr and other websites.
I’m not trying to preach gloom and doom, I’m just being frank when I say that Tumblr has fucked up in a massive way, and the results will be significant.
I have had 3 mineral posts flagged as adult content today. They contained a tourmaline, a muscovite, and a galena. On Friday I had 3 fossil posts flagged as adult content, including a fossil fish, a fossil tooth from a mastodon, and a Tyrannosaur vertebrae. I’ve submitted appeals for each. This has been getting worse over the past month, apparently most of geology content is now only for adults.
Apparently you can’t get your rocks off on Tumblr anymore.
i am contractually obligated to congratulate you on this reply
I mean geology does involve a lot of intense study of orogenous zones and cleavage, so I suppose it’s fair XD
Like. I’m a firm believer that porn online shouldn’t be within kids reach (those “are you 18” checkboxes for life) but. Like. Ok first of all, just ban cp? It’s not hard? Cp is what got you into this mess just ban it. Second of all, you could increase the age of sign-up from 13 to 18. Third of all, you could do what deviantart does and just. Require birthdays at sign-up. If your blog is flagged as nsfw, you can’t interact with minors. You want to follow an nsfw blog? Prove you’re an adult. You’re an adult but don’t want to see nsfw content? Safe search (that actually works).
It’s not hard to make a functioning website, but staff doesn’t seem to want to do that.
