Gaster ghost update! To update him, you can choose “check for updates”
from the right click menu, select it from his Functions double-click
menu, or hit Ctrl+U when he’s the focus. He should check and download
the files himself (provided my site doesn’t go down…) If you don’t have
him, you can pick him up from here or this post.

This update is HUGE and as such is going to take a while to get through! You might want to shrink him with shell scaling beforehand so he won’t be in your way while he downloads some 200+ files, cough. If he hangs while checking for updates, try applying any Windows/System updates you might have in your queue and restarting. He hung for me while I was testing at first, but after I did the updates and restarted, it went through okay. Incidentally, if you notice weird SSP behavior, like updates hang or he stops blinking or animating or things like that, you can often fix them by doing any computer updates you have lying around and restarting.

Anyway!

  • THE BROTHERS ARE LIVE! To see them, check on them with Gaster’s phone
    until they seem to be missing and that will start the event. They don’t
    have a lot of dialogue or options right now, but I just wanted to get
    the framework for them done already because this update is already huge
    enough as is. They’ll get expanded over time, no doubt. I THINK I closed
    most loopholes with them but if they show up when they shouldn’t, or
    Gaster appears when he shouldn’t, let me know. Right now, you can’t have
    Gaster and the brothers out at the same time, it’s one or the other.
    This is the majority of the update. I don’t think the event will
    trigger on the negative path at the moment. I’m still working out how I
    want it to go down on that route…
  • I’m sure I did some minor fixes
    with Gaster here and there but I can’t remember them now, the brother
    thing took up most of my focus. I DO remember making it so you can’t
    name yourself “First Human” anymore though.

Bunch of stuff this time!

  • Added some new functionality where if you use “Call Ghost” in the right
    click menu to run another ghost at the same time as him, there’s a
    chance he may notice them randomly and say something. Right now he’ll
    notice Hunter and Smoker, himself (I think), and the Ghost template (and Radic and Farns,
    even though they aren’t released yet…)
  • Added a bunch of dialogue for asking about Toriel at both mid and high relationship ranges
  • Added
    a bunch of dialogue for asking him about himself at both mid and high
    relationship ranges. Some of the dialogue is for if you ask him about
    himself RIGHT after you pet him. It’s hard to get though!
  • Added
    close dialogue for if you’ve had him open for over 12 hours (meaning you
    left him open by accident while you were sleeping, most likely)
  • Added the clock fixing function to his main function menu
  • Per popular request, you can now apologize to him for nitpicking him
    and get your LV back down from doing so. This is NOT retroactive! It
    only applies if you nitpick him from this point onwards. Be warned that
    he’ll give you a hard time about it, haha.
  • Subsequently the
    apologize option has been reworked and moved a little. Punching him
    once, touching his SOUL, or nitpicking will get it to appear.
  • There’s
    a new ACT option if you’ve punched him at least once and gotten your LV
    up past a certain point – Gloat. It’s a negative action, as you can
    probably guess. If you gloat at him, he may mention it later.
  • There’s now a chance that when he gets the hiccups, you’ll be given some options to help them go away
  • He has a new response if you try to name yourself “Human”
  • He now won’t fall asleep if you’ve betrayed his trust

  • If you boot him very late at night or early in the morning, there’s a chance he may appear in his pajamas.
  • Added
    a pose for facepalming, and a pose for turning away from you. These
    have mostly been added to older dialogue, so you may just have to play
    with him as normal to see them.

  • Tweaked his hiccup pose slightly.
  • Added a new pose when you move him when your relationship with him is bad, as you can see above.
  • Added
    a lot more dialogue for when you’ve punched him a lot of times (like
    over 25 times). You can now watch him have a panic attack!
  • Added
    more dialogue in the negative route for things you might have done if
    you went positive first: items you might have given him, questions you
    might have asked him, that kind of thing. Also a few more cigarette
    related lines.
  • Added a specific response if you try to give him coffee after punching him once.
  • Added a pose to his fearful envelope.
  • Caught a typo for when he’s jonesing for a cigarette in normal dialogue.
  • Added a check so he won’t boot with googly eyes, I’m pretty sure.
  • If you punch him while he’s sleeping, it’ll now set the same flag as if you punch him after gaining his trust in other ways.
  • I’m
    debating changing nitpicking so it no longer increases your LV and
    instead have him bring up your nitpicking in general dialogue. I haven’t
    made a decision yet though.
  • Oh, by the way, if the font for his balloon doesn’t look like the caps I post here, that’s probably because you don’t have Determination Mono installed. I thought I included it with the balloon but I guess it didn’t go through… anyway, if you install Determination Mono, his balloon font should look more standard.

How do you set up your email on ukagaka? Could you do a tutorial in your free time? Thanks!

It’s really not too complicated, although keep in mind I’ve had real trouble getting it to reply back with the right amount of emails! It might work better with some email accounts than others, and you may have to fiddle with the settings in your account if you’re running into trouble. I’ve gotten it to work once with a non-gmail account, and other people have told me they got it working using this method, but if you run into problems with it, there’s only so much I can do.

Anyway, the first thing you’ll want to do is google your email provider and POP. Like this, for example.

POP is a way for mail clients to read email, as you can see here. So if you’re on hotmail for example, you could google “hotmail POP” or something like that. Almost every email provider will have a page set aside for POP information, I think.

Anyway, read through the page you find, and in particular make a note of these settings. These are the settings you’ll be giving SSP. Now boot up your ghost.

You’re going to want to go the right click menu, and go to preferences.

Then you’ll want to go to the POP tab on the left. It should take you to this menu here. You’ll want to go down to “Add…” down there at the bottom to add your email account.

It should bring up a little window that looks like this. Put in the information you got about your email POP settings into here. Account will be the name SSP will use for the account in its menus, the server and port should be on the POP page you saw, and then your user id and password is your email account and password. You might have to change the type from POP3 to something else in the dropdown, depending on your email provider. Once it’s done, you should see the account listed in the POP tab of preferences.

When you want to check your mail, go to the right click menu and go to Check Mail, and pick the account you set up. The ghost should connect to your account, and tell you if you have any new emails since the last time it checked (I think it’s since the last time it checked… I’m not sure. It might be for emails you haven’t read). If there’s some kind of error, hopefully the ghost will tell you what kind of trouble they’re having, and you can try and fix it. Again, if the ghost doesn’t give you the right amount, like if they always say you don’t have new emails, I don’t know how to fix that, haha. This is a tricky thing to get working properly, at least in my experience.

Any idea on when a Gaster ghost would be available for download/purchase?

Ah people are asking about this a lot! He is technically done right now, actually. I’m thinking I’ll post him here for the Handplates anniversary (Nov 25th, I’m pretty sure), since I don’t really have anything else planned for that day, haha. And I certainly spent enough time on him! I may also add stuff to him between now and then as well, but we’ll see. It depends on how much time I have…

Still cant tell you when the Gaster ghost will be done. :B No cool gifs this time, but this took a while to set up so I’m gonna show it off anyway, haha.

Anyway, right now Gaster has an ACT menu and an ITEM menu. The ACT menu will change dynamically depending on what you do! Treating him certain ways will lock off or open different interactions, and what exactly you do when you choose the action and how he’ll respond will also change depending.

The ITEM menu will function a bit differently, but I’m still working on it. What do some of these actions do? You’ll have to find out yourself, hehe.

Also in general ghost news, I updated the walkthrough site! The coding page has more solid examples of some of the concepts and some other ways to call functions. I also updated the screenshot I used for Network Update/Publishing your ghost since SSP translated those windows since I wrote the site. I need to do some experimenting with this new Zip file+Txt update package feature…

There is also a new page for how to translate a ghost into a different language! I’m not sure how much interest there is in such a thing, but why not, right?
